How to choose your leather jacket size

Every BAGONSA jacket is cut after you order it, in the size you choose. That makes getting the size right before you order worth five minutes with a tape measure. Here is how we do it.

Start from a jacket you already own

The most reliable reference is not your body but a jacket that fits you the way you like. Lay it flat, zipped or buttoned, and measure it. Then compare those numbers with the guidance below rather than guessing from a T-shirt size.

  • Chest: across the front, armpit seam to armpit seam, then double it.
  • Shoulders: seam to seam across the back, along the top.
  • Sleeve: from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff.
  • Length: from the base of the collar to the bottom of the hem, down the back.

Leather does not stretch the way knit fabric does. A jacket that is snug across the chest on day one will loosen slightly at the seams and elbows as the hide breaks in, but it will not gain a full size. If the flat measurement is tight, the jacket is tight.

Measuring your body instead

If you have no jacket to compare with, measure yourself over a T-shirt, with the tape level and relaxed, not pulled tight.

  • Chest: around the fullest part, under the arms, with your arms down.
  • Waist: around the natural waist, where the jacket hem will sit on a cropped cut.
  • Sleeve: from the bone at the top of your shoulder to your wrist bone, arm slightly bent.

Then add room. A leather jacket needs about 5–8 cm (2–3 in) more than your chest measurement to close comfortably and move with you; more if you plan to wear a sweater under it. Most of our jackets are cut as a regular fit and are meant to be worn over a shirt or a light knit.

Our sizes

Our jackets come in US sizes S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL. They are cut to a regular fit: straight through the body, with room to layer, not slim and not oversized. Two cuts differ from the rest, and their product pages say so — the women's racer jacket is tailored through the waist, and the women's biker jacket is cropped to the hip.

If your measurements put you between two sizes, take the larger one. A leather jacket that is slightly roomy still looks right; one that is too small never will, and because each piece is made for you, an exchange means waiting for a new jacket to be made.

Unsure? Send us your chest, shoulder and sleeve measurements before you order — we will confirm the size before the jacket is cut.

Fit checks once it arrives

  • The shoulder seam sits on the edge of your shoulder, not down the arm and not up on the collarbone.
  • You can zip or button it fully and still raise your arms without the hem lifting more than a few centimetres.
  • The sleeve ends at the wrist bone with the arm straight; ribbed cuffs on bomber jackets can sit a touch shorter.
  • A bomber hem sits at the waistband; a trucker or shirt jacket a little below it; a cropped biker at the hip.

Size exchanges follow our returns policy: request one within 14 days of delivery, with the jacket unworn and in its packaging.

Our sneakers and loafers are listed in US sizing. The equivalent UK and EU sizes are:

USUKEU

Leather shoes should feel snug across the top of the foot on the first wear and ease within a week; length should be right from the start, with about a thumb's width in front of the longest toe.
