What size laptop backpack do I need?
Short answer
Match the backpack’s stated laptop size to your laptop’s screen size, measured diagonally: a 13–14-inch backpack fits 13 and 14-inch laptops, and a 15–16-inch one fits the larger models. Check your laptop’s actual width too, since thick bezels or rugged cases can add a centimetre or two.
Laptop sizes describe the screen, not the machine.
How laptop sizes are measured
The number is the screen’s diagonal in inches. The body is wider than the screen, so two 14-inch laptops can differ in width by a centimetre or more.
Rough laptop sizes
| Screen | Typical width | Typical depth |
|---|---|---|
| 13–13.3" | 30–31 cm | 21–22 cm |
| 14" | 31–33 cm | 22–23 cm |
| 15.6–16" | 35–36 cm | 24–25 cm |
These are typical figures; measure yours or check its specification if it is close to the limit.
Our backpacks
The slim forest-green and nude backpacks and the cognac backpack are built for 13–14-inch laptops. The black roll-top backpack takes a 15–16-inch laptop.
Frequently asked
Will a 15.6-inch laptop fit in a 14-inch backpack?
No. Choose a backpack rated for 15–16-inch laptops.
Can I use a larger backpack for a small laptop?
Yes, but the laptop can slide around; a padded sleeve keeps it in place.
